Jet2 has not paid us to write this post, and this isn’t an advert or promotion. However, this blog contains affiliate links and links to our own posts we think you will find very helpful.
The way Jet2 handled our rescheduled trips and cancellations during the Pandemic of 2020 and 2021 helped fuel this post. We always like to give good feedback and positive reviews when we feel it is necessary.
This is the first time I have ever written a full post for our blog. I usually just leave everything to Jason and help proof read and give advice when needed. I might even consider writing more after this. Who knows? – Vicky.
Using Jet2 For The First Time
Neither of us had ever flown with Jet2 until I took my Grandma to Barcelona in 2013. I booked this trip at our local Thomas Cook store. Before flying, I had to contact the airline to explain that my Grandma would require the use of a lift to get on and off the aeroplane and that I would need the use of a wheelchair in the airport because of her reduced mobility. This service was fantastic and straightforward.
Barcelona is somewhere my Grandma always wanted to travel to, so I was happy that I could arrange this for her. We had a fantastic time. I knew Jason had been to Barcelona before, but this was the first time for me. I fell in love with the place and I knew I would be back again one day with him.
A Bit Of Jet2 History
They founded the company in 1983 as Channel Express and became Jet2.com in 2003. Jet2 currently flies out of 10 UK airports, including Manchester, Belfast, Newcastle and Glasgow. They base the company in Yorkshire at Leeds-Bradford airport.
They operate a fleet of 90 planes and travel to many destinations across Europe. These include Barcelona, Vienna, Mykonos, Faro, Antalya, Cologne, plus many more.
They have won several prestigious awards for service and scooped the coveted FEEFO Platinum Trusted Service Award for the second year running in 2021. In 2019, Jet2 Holidays also won the award for best short-haul operator for the third year running.
They are the third largest airline in the UK.
More Trips With Jet2 Holidays & City Breaks
Since then, Me and Jason have booked further trips to Naples, Sorrento and Prague. I also surprised Jason with a trip to Rome for his 40th birthday. We have always flown with Jet2 from Leeds-Bradford airport. From check-in to cabin crew, they have the loveliest staff with smiles on their faces. They always greet us and wish us a lovely holiday.
Where we have travelled to with Jet2 Holidays & City Breaks
Travelling With Jet2
Check-in at the airport has always been quick and efficient. They don’t have you waiting long due to there being a large dedicated area for Jet2 at Leeds. Also, another big plus we find useful is the baggage allowance included with their package holidays and city breaks. They allow you 22kg check-in luggage and 10kg in hand luggage which, compared to some other holiday companies, is superb.
For our flights, we always pay extra so we can choose our seats. Jason loves to sit next to the window so he can take lots of photos and videos. What always gets us excited for our trip is when you board the plane and they play the Jess Glynne song “Hold My Hand” what’s probably known now as the Jet2 song. We know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it always gets us giddy for our trip.
Not long into the flight, the crew come round with the refreshments trolley and for us we always buy a little bottle of prosecco each and a small tube of Pringles. This has become a ritual on most flights, to be honest. Not long after that, you get the option to purchase duty-free items and usually get given a voucher to use too so you can get a little extra off. Also, on arrival back in the UK, they always give you a voucher that gives you £60 off your next booking, which is effectively the cost of your deposit. If you’re anything like us, you’re usually already on with planning your next trip before this one ends. So this always comes in handy.
Plans During The Pandemic
Praia da Rocha, Algarve, Portugal
We had a 2 week holiday to the Algarve booked for May 2020. Jet2 contacted us with plenty of notice to let us know they canceled this. They gave us the option of a full refund or we could choose to re-book it. We opted for the latter, so again, they contacted us. We chose our new dates, and it was all done for the same price, which was fantastic. Unfortunately, this trip had to be cancelled again. Now, with no way of knowing if this holiday could go ahead for a third time, they just refunded us the full amount. They did this quickly, and we didn’t have to chase our money.
We had a city break to Kraków booked for November 2020. They also canceled this trip. Another refund was sent a few days later. The travel industry received a massive blow from the outbreak of Covid, but how Jet2 dealt with it in our experience, was brilliant.
We would still like to re-book those trips we missed out on and would definitely do so with Jet2. We gave them our money for those holidays in the first place, so we feel it is only fair to give it back to them as soon as we can.
There are many other places they fly to that we would love to visit. They’re adding to that list of places every year, which is very exciting. They also have the option to book trips and pay for these by monthly direct debit. This could come in handy for some people.
Since writing this blog we have now travelled to Kraków. Originally, we replaced this trip to Kraków with a city break to Budapest. However, on the day of our return from Santorini, we had an email from Easyjet to say this was also a victim of a Covid cancellation. We aren’t having much luck.
The day after we got home, we decided that rather than not travel anywhere and lose our holiday altogether, we would look to see where we could book. We again booked Kraków with Jet2 and fly out in November. This will be our first time flying out of Manchester with Jet2.
Jet2 To The Rescue Again
Here we are again. Yet another trip cancelled by Easyjet. We do not know why our trip to Venice was cancelled, but so far, this seems to be the norm with them. We have had two trips booked, and so far, all they have done is rearrange flights and cancel our bookings.
We re-booked this trip to Venice with Jet2.
