Our Review Of Hotel Delfini, Ios

When we booked our trip to Santorini, we looked at which other islands we could visit. We found we could visit the island of Ios, a 40 minute ferry ride away and loved the idea of spending a day there. Here is our review of Hotel Delfini, Mylopotas, Ios.

Jason looked on booking.com and started his search for hotels. A few nice ones came up, but Hotel Delfini really stood out to us. It was right on the beachfront at Mylopotas, perfect as we have really missed being on the beach during this pandemic.

Booking Our Room

Jason booked a room for one night and it was only going to cost us £30 for room only. What a bargain. We would pay this balance at the end of our stay at the hotel when we checked out. There would have been no charge if we had to cancel within 10 days of arriving, which is a great thing to look for during these uncertain times when travel restrictions are changing frequently.

We booked the hotel for the Saturday night and sorted all our ferry tickets at home before flying out to Santorini.

Using the mobile app Ferryhopper, we booked our tickets beforehand. A return journey cost us €63.60 each. We thought this wasn’t too bad.

When we finally arrived at the hotel after lots of exploration, we rang a small bell in the reception area and a lady soon came to greet us. She asked our name and showed us to our room.

The Hotel

It’s a small hotel, and we were on the first floor. Our room was a decent size with a king sized bed, fridge, TV and kettle for hot drinks on a morning. The bathroom was also a good size, with a lovely rain fall shower that had plenty of hot water. We also had a balcony furnished with a table and 2 chairs. The Wi-Fi password was available for us to use for free. The room was perfect for us and spotless.

Some rooms look out over the bay of Mylopotas across the Aegean Sea, and others look out towards the mountains.

The hotel sits above a beachfront bar and restaurant which we ate at during our stay. The food was incredible, as you can see in the photo below. Far better than what we expected. There is also a supermarket for any snacks or essentials during your stay.

The hotel sits just over a mile from Ios town and should you want to explore more of the island, staff here can arrange car hire.

We did not know that Ios was known for being a bit of a party island. It is well known for its vibrant nightlife and party atmosphere. We only found this out after doing a bit more research.

Thankfully, though, the island was quiet, as it was nearing the end of the season. But if you are looking for a lively Greek island, check out Ios during the busier months.

The Beach

We hit the beach for the rest of the afternoon and stayed for the sunset. It was so beautiful. Seeing the sunset in Santorini, this was a whole unique experience. Sat on the beach, the waves gently kissing the shore. As soon as the sun disappeared, we had a slow walk back to the hotel to get ready for the evening.

When the time came to check-out, we paid with our card and the lady wished us well. We didn’t really have much interaction with any other staff member here other than when we arrived and left. They were nice and very pleasant.

We wrote about this mini-adventure to Ios in a separate post, and you can read all about it here, Island Hopping From Santorini To Ios.
